How Much Water Should You Drink For Bodybuilding

It's important to drink pure water daily to replenish what you lose during your training and daily activities. Even moderate dehydration can significantly impair your physical performance.

Water is the most important nutrient in your body and comprises a majority of your total weight. It is critical to your performance that if a muscle becomes dehydrated by 3%, you will lose 10% of your contractile strength. As the weather heats up and you exercise more vigorously, you lose more water through perspiration, breath and urine than at lower levels of activity. It is important to replace your water stores throughout the day, especially while training.

Fruit juices, sodas, sport drinks, coffee and tea are mainly water. It's the other ingredients in these beverages that can cause problems. Sugary drinks add a lot of calories to your diet, and caffeinated beverages can actually cause dehydration by increasing the volume of fluid eliminated as urine. The best way to stay hydrated is to consume plenty of pure water.

Drink at least 2 to 3 quarts throughout the day. Your total consumption should depend on your body mass, how hard you train and the climate. It's always safer to sip more than less.
